COURSE GOAL = Students learn to communicate mathematically and make connections within and outside mathematics as they develop conceptual understanding and solve problems. This course addresses all of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for grade 6 and 7 mathematics.
RULES & EXPECTATIONS = My expectation is that every student in my class will achieve their goals. They are expected to work hard, and I will do the same.
I also expect for my students to exhibit the following: 1 – Be Where You Are Supposed To Be. Show respect for yourself and the learning community by being where the learning is taking place. 2 – Take Care Of Our Learning Environment. All physical property in the classroom needs to be treated gently and stored properly. 3 – You Are Responsible For Your Own Learning. You are in the driver’s seat and need to show up EVERY DAY ready to engage and make the most of your learning opportunities. 4 – You Are Responsible For Supporting The Learning Of Others. Interact with peers in a way that builds their confidence and helps them to understand the content we are studying.
Homework will be given to students every Friday and will be due the following Wednesday unless otherwise noted. These will be followed by a graded Quick Check that covers the material on that same Wednesday. If homework is not complete or missing the student will have working lunch. ABSENCES = If a student has an excused absence, they have as many days as missed plus one to turn in all missed work. It is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to come to me to find out what was missed.
RE-TESTS - *only for summative assignments* Only one redo/retake is allowed per assignment and must be done within 5 days of the return of the original. Students must complete a re-teach session before taking a re-test. ONLY Students scoring below an 80 are eligible for a redo/retake. Students can then earn up to an 80 on their second attempt. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Entering the Classroom-- Enter the classroom in an orderly fashion. Be prepared by having all materials before class begins i.e. math binder, independent practice, sharpened pencil, paper, etc. You should be in your seat working on the warm-up activity by the time the bell rings.
Tardy-- If you enter class after the bell rings, then you are considered tardy and will be sent to the office to get a pass.
Use time appropriately-- Going to the restroom, sharpening pencils, etc. should be done before class or when working on an assignment; NOT when the teacher or a fellow student is teaching, reading aloud, explaining, etc. When moving about the room, always take the shortest route and do not disturb others.
Assignment Turn-in— All assignments are due at the beginning of class. BE SURE YOUR FULL NAME AND CLASS PERIOD ARE ON YOUR PAPER! If you have an absent assignment, late assignment, or corrections, place them in the designated area to be graded.
Restroom/Locker/Clinic—Students are encouraged to use the 4-minute passing period wisely. Students are given a set number of restroom passes at the beginning of each quarter and will not be given extras. Students must present a pass to leave the classroom.
Lockers--Students are encouraged to use their locker for backpacks to free up space in the classroom for group activities.
Intercom Announcements--Stop what you are doing and listen. There should be no talking during school-wide announcements. Resume work immediately when announcements are completed.
Exiting the Classroom--Do not pack up until the teacher gives you permission. The teacher will dismiss you, NOT the bell. Be sure to clean your area and return any borrowed materials before leaving.
We will discuss other classroom procedures as they occur in the classroom.
